Thousands of Virgin Media customers across the Western Wards have lost their TV and broadband services after the cable was cut by roadworks – and it may be 48 hours before the service comes back.
Virgin Media confirmed that a digger at roadworks in Cosham had cut through the major Virgin Media services cable and that had affected services to thousands of people across the south including those in Fareham, Locks Heath, Warsash and Sarisbury.
Subscribers in PO and SO postcodes from Portsmouth to Southampton found either their TV or broadband – and usually both – were down earlier today.
The service cut could not have come at a worse time for students and pupils revising for exams as well as many other people who rely on their broadband service to run their business.
A Virgin Media spokesman said tonight: “A part of our network was damaged by roadworks to the north of Portsmouth this morning affecting customers in parts of the city and the surrounding area.
“Our engineers have been on site today and will continue to work through the night to repair this damage in order to bring services back as quickly as possible.
“We apologise for any disruption.”
The spokesman confirmed that Virgin Media customers would be able to discuss pro rata compensation for the loss of their services.
