As part of the competition the Year 3 winners wrote mystery stories of incidents happening in Whiteley, while Year 6 children had to begin their tales with the phrase ‘on my way to Whiteley Shopping Centre’.
Winners Max Williams, Sophie Humphires and Lauren Cullen, all 11, as well as Maddie Middleton and Gabrielle Bedford, both eight, were excited their entries will be displayed in the interactive Treehouse exhibiton for shoppers to see.
“In my story I found a chocolate bar that was radioactive and turned me into a superhero and meant I could shoot chocolate out of my hands,” said Max from Hill Head. “I didn’t really know what the prize was and I was really surprised when I won.”
Sophie’s story tells the interaction of a girl and a man from the future at the Whiteley Shopping Centre and it ends on a cliff hanger. Sophie, from Whiteley, said she had been watching the development of the shopping facility and added: “It’s brilliant seeing it change.”
Head teacher Lesley Pennington said: “It’s an important part for the community and it’s great to see the changes. For the last two years Year 6 have had projects relating to the Whiteley Shopping Centre.
“It will be great to have some of the their stories there. It’s great for us to have links with the community and local businesses.”
The stories will be displayed in The Treehouse until June 2.
