Swimmers who train in Locks Heath won a haul of medals to finish 2012.
Locks Heath Swim Squad achieved a number of podium places at the City of Southampton Christmas meet – including Arabella Suttie and Tess Edwards who took nearly all of the gold medals in the nine and 10-year-olds age group.
Arabella, 10, won four gold medals for her swims in 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke, while Tess, 10, took the golds for 100m breaststroke, 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly. Tess also took silver in 200m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 100m medley, taking her medal haul to seven for the day.
Zita Edwards, 13, also did well by winning gold in the 13 and 14-year-old age groups for 100m breaststroke and two silver medals for her 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle.
Abbie Daniel, 15, swam well to take a silver in the 15 and 16-year-old age group’s 100m medley and bronze medals for 50m and 100m breaststroke. Emily Tidby, 12, took home a bronze for her swim in the 50m breaststroke of the 11 and 12 years category.
The squad also attended the Havant & Waterlooville Peter Bull Meet in December where Zita claimed top spot in the 13-year-old girls group overall.
Zita finished first in three out of her four events and was second in the fourth. Jessica Larby, 11, and Lucy Newton, nine, both finished third overall in their age groups. Lucy took first place in 50m backstroke, second in 200m backstroke and third in the 100m medley.
Arabella Suttie, nine, took four first places and, despite not having points awarded for a medley swim as she was too fast to enter, still finished fourth overall in her age group.
William Whitlock had top three finishes in four of his events and took fourth place overall in the 11-year-old boys category.
Sam Rush was fifth in the 13-year-old boys group, taking second place in 200m breaststroke and third in 50m breaststroke.
