Plans for redevelopment of the Locks Heath Shopping Centre – including a five-lane swimming pool – are likely to be discussed at a meeting in April.
Planning officers are expected to complete a report to narrow down detailed plans for the redevelopment of the centre in the next few weeks so they can be considered by Fareham Borough Council’s executive on April 8.
Members of the public will be able to view the report a week ahead of the executive meeting.
Results from the consultation by Fareham council are being collated. The consultation outlined two locations on the site in Centre Way with both options including the two-floor leisure and community facilities, as well as a swimming pool – which has been a long standing development aspiration for the Western Wards.
Hundreds of residents attended the consultation on the proposals, which also included two different locations for a new food retailer or remodelling of the existing Co-operative supermarket and around 320 car parking spaces.
Leader of the council Sean Woodward said: “I would hope to see a report made to the executive on April 8.
“We’ll summarise the results and make recommendations on the next steps. This could be adopting a supplementary planning document for future developments on the site.
“I would like to see support for the community complex that we’ve suggested. It would be a single building housing a public swimming pool and leisure and fitness suite, community centre and library.
“I would be interested to see if there was support for that.
“I would also like to see improved shopping facilities, whether that’s from the Co-op or another food retailer.”
Cllr Woodward is meeting with centre owners New River Retail next week to discuss what the company would like to see.
