A Locks Heath woman who was spotted by police driving despite being banned from the roads has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Officers saw April Pickett behind the wheel of her car leaving the car park next to Fareham Police Station less than three months after she was disqualified from driving.

And when the marked police car with flashing blue lights and a siren sounding tried to pull Pickett over, she carried on driving until she eventually drove into a dead end road.

When Pickett was arrested and taken to the police station, she was found to have a quantity of cocaine, a Class A drug, in her possession.

The 37-year-old of Knottgrass was sentenced to a 12-week jail term, suspended for 12 months and was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work over 12 months.

At an earlier hearing, Fareham magistrates heard Pickett was seen driving her Ford Focus car on December 30 at the Quay Street roundabout, which is overlooked by the police station.

Police followed Pickett along Western Way and the Avenue until she stopped at Redlands Lane traffic lights.

As an officer approached her car, she drove off when the traffic lights turned green. Eventually she turned into a cul-de-sac where she arrested by the police.

Pickett had pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, failing to stop for the police and possessing cocaine.

Fareham magistrates disqualified Pickett from driving for a total of 26 months, which took into account her previous conviction and ban for drink-driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
