A 40-year-old male motorcyclist was critically injured when he collided with a blue Nissan Micra in Locks Road at its junction with Hollybrook Gardens at 9.15pm on Saturday (June 8).

Neighbours living near the crash scene heard a loud bang at the time of the crash and rushed out of their houses to help the motorcyclist and the car driver.

It is thought that the 64-year-old male car driver from Warsash was pulling out of Hollybrook Gardens and turning right onto Locks Road when the motorcyclist, who was travelling north on Locks Road struck him.

Police and ambulance were quickly on the scene and the road was closed for four hours while they carried out their investigations.

One elderly man who lives in Locks Road, but did not want to give his name, said: “We were in the house when we heard a bang. A lot of neighbours rushed out to help and some called the police. The motorcyclist was laying on the path.

“From the markings on the road, the car must have been coming out of Hollybrook Gardens when the motorbike was coming up the road and they crashed. There were a lot of cars parked along Locks Road so the driver probably couldn’t see too well.

“It didn’t look like the the car driver was hurt because he was walking around. But it looked like the motorcyclist was quite injured.”

One woman, whose parents live in Hollybrook Gardens, said she saw the aftermath of the crash but that her mum and dad rushed out to help as soon as they heard the collision.

“A lot of cars were parked on Locks Road because there was a party was going on in one house,” she said.

“The car came out of Hollybrook Gardens and I don’t think they can have seen the motorcyclist and they crashed. The motorcyclist went onto the pavement and his helmet came off.

“Quite a lot of people ran out to try to help. My mum gave duvets to the driver and a neighbour had a duvet that they were using to help the motorcyclist.

“There was a lot of blood on the duvets.”

The motorcyclist was seriously injured and taken to Southampton General Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the Micra was uninjured.

Any witnesses to the collision or prior to it should call PC Phil Robertson at Fratton Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Physique.
