A Sarisbury Green mum is hosting a sponsored Zumbathon to raise money for a teenager who needs special therapy in the USA for an inoperable brain tumour.
Lisa Angell has urged people in the Western Wards to join her for the one-hour activity to raise cash for 16-year-old Sam John, who was diagnosed with pilocytic astrocytoma in 2006.
Lisa, 40, of Beck Close is hosting the Zumbathon at Brookfield School tomorrow (May 23) for Sam to have proton therapy.
As a friend of the family, Lisa wanted to raise money for Sam’s cause Mission for Sam. Lisa knows Sam’s parents Vicki and Steve through Gosport and Fareham Rugby Club, where Steve is the head coach.
Rugby-fan Sam even got to meet Welsh rugby union player Ryan Jones with the Fareham and Gosport club recently.
“Having known Sam for nine years, he’s such a lovely boy,” said Lisa. “He’s never once complained, even when it’s been hard for him in a wheelchair and so on.
“He’s very positive. The one time they’ve asked for help I would personally really like to help them because they’ve done so much for the community.
“It’s going to be a fun activity for everyone to enjoy and a bit of exercise before we start the half term.”
While the NHS has agreed to fund Sam’s treatment, the John family need to raise cash for travel, accommodation and any additional treatment.
Sam’s mum Vicki will be attending to help raise the funds at the Zumbathon from 8pm to 9pm. Pay £5 to turn up and join in the event.
