Passengers travelling from Swanwick or Bursledon rail stations have revised timetables to prepare for severe weather forecasts tomorrow (January 18).

South West Trains has altered timetables for trains, including those running between Portsmouth Harbour, Southampton Central and London Waterloo, following a warning of heavy snowfall and blizzards.

Jake Kelly, Customer Service Director for the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance, said: “We know that what our passengers want most is certainty about when and how they are going to get to their destination.

“This special timetable helps ensure this by running slightly fewer services and allowing more time for trains to cope with poor conditions. In addition, it allows us to avoid train crew being in the wrong place which can cause further disruption.

“The revised timetable we have in place for Friday will help to ensure we make best use of our resources to deliver the most robust service we can for passengers should the forecasts prove accurate and will help our passengers plan ahead.”

In the event that the weather is more severe than has been forecast, there may be a further reduction in services.

Normal services are planned for Saturday (January 19), but adverse weather may lead to some short notice delays or cancellations.

Customers have been advised to check their route for the revised timetables at www.southwesttrains.co.uk.
