After waiting months for jobs, Carol Bramley and Georgina Morey struck gold at a recent recruitment event.
Eagerly taking on board training in their new employment at the Whiteley Shopping Centre, 55-year-old Carol and Georgina, 18, are excited for the real hard work to begin.
Carol was the first in line at 8am at a recruitment day for the centre held at the Solent Hotel in Whiteley earlier this year after being made redundant in January.
She has worked in retail and management before, but was delighted to add a new string to her bow of skills working as a security controller for GBM Support Services Group at the centre.
“It was the last stand I went to on the way out at the recruitment day, we got talking and it went from there,” said Carol of West End, Southampton.
“In other roles in retail I’ve been involved in security in some way. I’m going down another branch of the retail environment.
“I’m elated to get the job. It’s really nice to be at the beginning of anything new – you all start together. It’s a cliché but you do get the family feel.
“We can see every aspect of the place and because of that we hope people can have a pleasant time coming here and feel safe and secure that we’re here.”

Georgina was excited to be offered a job at the Harvester after attending the recruitment fair. She said she has enjoyed training as front of house with her manager Jame Gates and new colleagues. She added she was glad that the work fits in while she is still in education studying at Sparsholt College.
“I’m really enjoying it,” said Georgina, of Leafy Lane, Whiteley. “We’ve really got to know everyone. I think it’s going to be a team that works well together.
“Before this I spent six months unemployed because I couldn’t fit a job around college. James has been really good with the rotas so I can work while still at college. I’d really like to carry on here to work my way up.
“I love it when it’s busy.”
