Climb aboard the cruise ship of adventures this summer for the annual Boomerang holiday activity programme.

This year takes on a new spin and has been renamed Messy Boomerang to include scores of messy activities for all the family with the theme Adventure Cruise.

This year the hugely popular summer scheme will be hosted at two venues – Locks Heath Free Church and St John’s School – instead of the usual three. St Anthony’s School, which usually hosts a number of events, is not available for the scheme this summer.

But organiser Claire Johnson said this will not mean a restriction in the number of children attending the scheme.

“We’re not envisioning reducing the numbers in any way,” she said. “Last year we had to restrict the number of children because we had fewer adult volunteers. We had 425 children altogether but the sites weren’t full to capacity.

“Now it’s how many we can safely get into the building rather than restrict numbers.

“If we can hope for the same number of children as last year, this year we will be able to have 300 at Locks Heath Free Church and 125 at St John’s.

“We will just be running for mornings at the moment. If we become inundated we could consider duplicating it with an afternoon session.

“We’re already excited about how we can decorate the building.”

Church leaders at Locks Heath Free Church are busy planning the schedule for the holiday scheme, for children aged up to 11 years, which will include lots of messy fun for all the family with activities, Bible stories, challenges, songs, crafts and games.

The church will be dressed as a cruise ship and each day activities will revolve around the cruise ship docking at different places.

Messy Boomerang at Locks Heath Free Church will be for children aged 0 to those in Year 4 from 10am to mid-day. While St John’s School will host Messy Boomerang + for children in school Years 5 and 6 from 9.45am to 12.15pm.

Registration is now available for the activities running from Monday July 29 to Friday August 2. On the final day, from 5pm to 8pm, there will be a Family Fun Evening on Locks Heath Free Church field and a family service will take place at the church on Sunday August 4 at 11am.

All parking will be at St Anthony’s School.
