Pupils at Hook-with-Warsash Academy paraded in school to showcase characters to mark World Book Day.
The pupils and teachers donned a variety of colourful clothes to be princesses, knights, Harry Potter figures and superheroes.
Two winners were chosen from each of the primary school’s classes for their unique home-made costumes to celebrate their favourite books.
Even the teachers joined in with their distinctive costumes, including Winnie the Witch, the Queen of Hearts, a crayon and a skeleton.
Numerous popular characters came to life at the school in Church Road and pupils showed the books which they had dressed up from.
Lesley Barsby and Ann Fiddy, librarians – and judges and organisers for the day – had trouble choosing the winners.
“We wanted to go for originality rather than those shop bought ones,” said Mrs Barsby, who was dressed as Andy Pandy.
“We haven’t had a book day for nearly seven years. So we wanted to try and get children inspired by what they’re reading and have a love of books.”
